The Food and Drug Interactions Project

The Food and Drug Interactions Project (FDIP) actively promotes awareness of potential food and drug interactions.

The amount of information related to food and drug interactions continues to grow - anecdotal, factual or manufactured - We are surrounded by an ocean of information that hides the useful.

The FDI Project team scours existing published literature for information on potential interactions between common medicines and foods, and sometimes specific nutrients in the body. These findings are collected in a database for quick and easy querying by users via the Interactions Lookup page. Results represent potential interactions that have been noted in studies or articles taken from publicly available information sources. The information provided therein does not address the specific behavior of medication and food interactions for any individuals, nor does it look to provide detailed correlations between concentrations of foods or specific nutrients in the body with the efficacy of a medication.

The Interactions Lookup tool is an accessible and convenient way to identify recognized and potential food and drug interactions. By making this information easier to find and understand, we hope to raise consumer awareness, and increase the public's ability and willingness to ask relevant questions and pursue better solutions with their health care team.

We at the Food and Drug Interactions Project believe that access to relevant, actionable information encourages/facilitates more open and effective communication between consumers/patients and their health care providers.
